  1. What are your business goals? - Sure, you want to make money. But you should have a deeper motivation, such as the time to spend with your children or relaxing vacation time.

  2. What is the purpose of your home page? - This is the page that most visitors see. You must be clear in stating how your services and products can meet their needs.

  3. What types of products and services do you sell? - Ensure that your products and services are those that the visitors want. Do your homework using Wordtracker tool or others to find the right keywords. You want something in the middle of the pack, not too much competition but in demand.

  4. How many products will you sell at your website? - If you are sell one item, you may need 4 - 10 pages. However, if it is 100 items, you site must be structured to allow easy access by your visitors.

  5. How many variables does your product have? - If your products have color, size, sku, shipping and other items, be sure that your shopping cart includes all elements.

  6. How will you accept payment? - An inexpensive approach for accepting payments online is to have PayPal shopping cart. For a small processing fee, it takes care of merchant account, shopping cart, payment gateway and secure certificate all in one place.

  7. What is your web hosting plan? - Sure you can get a site, but make sure that you have enough bandwidth and space available to receive 1000s of visitors each month.

  8. Will someone else maintain your website or will you? - Answering this question will help the designer build the site correctly to match your needs. Be sure to pick a system that will allow for significant growth in the number of pages on your site.

  9. What is your marketing plan? - Promotion is essential to build an online business. You may use pay-per-click, press releases, article marketing, social media, video marketing and others. You should have a consistent, long-term program.

  10. What is the best way to monitor statistics? - Your web hosting plan probably includes some site host statistics. If not, then use Google Analytics to place a code on each of your site pages. Then you can track your visitor count, where they come from and which are the best keywords for your site among other things.
