3. Great Part-time Jobs for Retirees

Searching for the best part-time job as a retiree? One of these just might fit the bill, courtesy of AARP.com.
  • Blogger or Website Publisher

Getting right down to it, most bloggers don't make very much monthly. Perhaps, it is around $100/month. However, some make much more. The best part about is that you can work when you want to, since your hours are flexible. Let's get real. You can only make money if you put the time and effort into it and follow a plan.

What do you need? You need a passion, a love for a niche that you really know something about and are willing to share with other. And you need that plan.

Here is an example of someone who made it big. Take look at Elad (the first one in this list).

  • Teacher's Aide

Do you have what it takes to be with kids all day. If so, you can have quite a rewarding experience. Of course, you have to defer to the teacher in charge and do some grunt work. But what if you work with a special child who is longing to have someone spend time to help them get over the hump in some area.

You could spend three to five hours a week or more and could work during the summer too. One might earn from $15,000 to $36,000 annually.

Some states require more than a high school diploma. You should be in great shape if you speak Spanish.

  • Tour Jobs

Tour jobs can pop up anywhere, especially in the well-known tourist areas. You have to be able to give a fresh performance for each group and be energetic about the subject. Of course, most of your time will be spent on your feet and you should be able to monitor your guests for safety and security requirements.

Hours can vary greatly depending on the area. Wages may range from $7.50 to $18.87 per hour.

If you are able to hang on to historical facts and dates with some interesting stories thrown in, then you have a good chance for this job.

  • Athletic Coach/Umpire/Referee

Your high school programs or youth and amateur leagues may present some opportunities. You will have to travel, however it should be nearby. You will be standing, running and dealing with stress.

The hours involved can vary greatly, so ask questions and get a good understanding of the requirements.

You could make from $3,000 to $5,000 per season as a coach. The referees and umpires can range from $30 to $50 per game. This may vary.

Of course, you have to have the physical stamina, be good with children and understand the game.

  • Convention Center Jobs

We could be talking about boat shows, sports events, concerts or industry conventions. Most often this is not a permanent job, just temporary for the event itself. It could involve nurses, parking lot attendants, cashiers, information booth attendants or food service personnel.

Work schedules could vary widely based on the event and evening hours may be required.

The pay range could be from $10 to $20 per hour.

  • Could one of these be the exciting part-time for you?

    4. What is LinkedIn and Why Use It?

We have talked about LinkedIn before, but I realize that perhaps some people have not yet been exposed to it. So I thought it would be good to write about what it is and why you should use it.

It is part of the social networking environment that came into being as part of Web 2.0, which is the evolution of online applications that provides interaction with the readers. There is now a two-way communication which delivers user driven content.

LinkedIn is a social interactive application for working professionals and those that want to find a job. It is not a job site, but 80% of recruiters use it. Approximately 90% of users are open to hearing about opportunities. Having said that, it is in its core, a social networking site for professionals.

You can use LinkedIn if you want to build relationships with individuals within your industry. You can use it to find a job or to research a company. Or you can use it to give people a place to find out more about you.

Businesses can use it to build their brand, reach out to former employees to expand the culture and even access for project assignments, to pull potential employees in with prospective employee groups, to highlight their services and products, and many more.

Here is some info from the LinkedIn Demographic chart:

    LinkeIn-Demographics

    Some key points are:

    • 70% of LinkedIn users are 35 years old and older.
    • 75% of LinkedIn users have a Bachelor's degree or greater.
    • 69% of LinkedIn users earn $60,000 or more.

    • This tells us that there are educated working professionals with money on the site that like to exchange ideas and opportunities with other members.

      Sounds like opportunity is knocking!
